Honey Bee Nucs for Sale in Minnesota and Texas

Starting with healthy and established honey bees can make a major difference in colony growth and long term hive success. Our VSH bee nucs provide a strong foundation for new and expanding hives with a laying queen and active brood already established.

Unlike package bees, nucleus colonies arrive as functioning hives with worker bees, brood, pollen, honey stores, and a queen already accepted by the colony.

Our Minnesota bee nucs are typically available for pickup in June while Texas bee nucs are generally available earlier in the season during April. Availability varies each year depending on winter survival, colony strength, and seasonal conditions.

Because quantities are limited and demand is high, our bee nucs often sell out before the pickup season begins. We recommend checking availability early each year for updates on seasonal sales and pickup timing.

The following benefits make our bee nucs a popular option for both beginner and experienced beekeepers.

Established Colonies

Each nuc contains an active colony already working together inside the hive.

VSH Queen Genetics

Selected for hygienic behavior and improved natural mite resistance.

Strong Seasonal Build Up

Active brood and a laying queen help colonies grow faster during the season.

Minnesota and Texas Pickup

Seasonal bee nuc pickup availability varies depending on location and time of year.

Frequently Asked Questions About Honey Bees and Beekeeping

Learn more about our bee nucs, queen bees, beekeeping classes, and beekeeper services.

What is a bee nuc?

A nucleus colony, often called a bee nuc, is a small functioning hive that already contains a laying queen, worker bees, brood, pollen, and honey stores. Nucs are often preferred over package bees because the colony is already established and actively growing. This allows the colony to build up faster during the season and often gives new beekeepers a stronger start compared to installing loose package bees into empty equipment.

When are your bee nucs usually available?

Our Texas bee nucs are generally available earlier in the season during April while Minnesota nucs are typically ready for pickup during June. Availability may vary depending on winter survival, spring weather conditions, colony development, and seasonal demand.

Do your bee nucs usually sell out?

Yes. Our nucleus colonies are produced in limited quantities each season and often sell out before pickup dates arrive. Because healthy overwintered colonies and VSH genetics are in high demand, we recommend checking availability early if you are interested in reserving bees for the upcoming season.

What does VSH mean?

VSH stands for Varroa Sensitive Hygiene. This hygienic behavior helps honeybees identify and remove mite infested brood from the hive, helping reduce Varroa mite pressure naturally within the colony. While no honeybee stock is completely mite proof, VSH behavior is considered one of the most valuable natural traits available for improving colony health and long term hive survival.

Are your beekeeping classes beginner friendly?

Yes. Many people attending our classes are newer beekeepers looking to better understand seasonal hive management, mite monitoring, swarm prevention, and colony health. Our classes focus heavily on practical hive experience and real world beekeeping techniques rather than only classroom style instruction.

Do I need my own bees before taking a class?

No. Many attendees take our classes before purchasing bees so they can better understand hive equipment, seasonal timing, and colony management before getting started with their first hive.

Do you ship bees or queen bees?

No. Our bees and queen bees are currently available for pickup only. Seasonal pickup details vary depending on the product, availability, and time of year.

Do you offer beekeeper services in Minnesota?

Yes. We offer beekeeper services including hive inspections, mite testing, requeening assistance, honey harvesting support, colony management guidance, and seasonal hive maintenance throughout the Delano and Watertown area.

Can you help improve winter survival of my bees?

Yes. One of the main goals of our beekeeper services and educational classes is helping beekeepers improve colony survival during Minnesota winters. Proper mite management, seasonal timing, nutrition, hive strength, and winter preparation all play major roles in overwintering success.
