Beekeeping in MN Class April 2017

Spring is the best time to start a beehive and taking a beekeeping class is the best way to avoid experiencing the dreaded hive collapse caused by varroa mites.

The class will be held 1pm to 4:30pm Saturday April 15, 2017 at the Voyageur Environmental Center in Mound Mn which happens to also be one of our bee yard locations. The course will be taught by Brian Fredericksen owner/founder of Ames Farm established in 1994 who has kept honeybees for over two decades.

The course is indoors in their beautiful lodge overlooking Little Long Lake and is designed to give you an overview of the following:

History of Beekeeping

Honeybee Biology

Disease & Pests of the Honeybee

Year Around Hive Management

Queen Rearing

Honey Production

Honey Selling & Marketing

As part of the 3.5 hour course, you will receive a handout of the course materials and references. Hiveware and beekeeping equipment will be on hand for your inspection.

After the course a half hour will be available from 4:30-5:00 to discuss your equipment needs. There will be some bee supply catalogs available to look over. We recommend Mann Lake or Dadant & Son's as the two best bee supply houses.

Terms: class is non refundable after 4/9/16
