Pure Beeswax
100% Pure Beeswax from Our Honeycomb Cappings
These clean blocks of 100% pure beeswax are a direct result of our single-source honey harvest. After we uncap the frames to extract honey, we gather the wax cappings, which are the purest wax the bees produce. We then slow-render them here at our farm in Delano. This yellow to golden colored beeswax has a natural honey and bee scent perfect for homemade candles, salves, beeswax food wraps, and coating plastic foundations used for beekeeping.
Pure beeswax has a melting point of approximately 160°F, noticeably higher than paraffin or most soy waxes. Consequently beeswax burns brighter and longer than any other candle wax.
This premium, unrefined wax comes in three convenient sizes: 1-ounce bars, 7.5-ounce bricks, and 1-pound bricks. It contains no synthetic additives or chemicals, simply the byproduct of healthy bees working the landscape of central Minnesota.
Why Choose Pure Beeswax?
Superior Burn Quality
Beeswax burns brighter and lasts longer than other waxes, thanks to its higher melting point of 160°F. This means your candles will not only have a longer burn time but also emit a brighter, cleaner flame, enhancing ambiance in any setting.
Eco-Friendly and Natural
Unlike synthetic waxes, beeswax is renewable, biodegradable, and non-toxic, ensuring a low environmental impact and a natural alternative for a range of projects. Its purity makes it suitable for both household and personal care applications, including beauty products and food storage solutions.
Hypoallergenic and Chemical-Free
Pure beeswax is naturally hypoallergenic, making it safe for people with sensitivities to synthetic additives, fragrances, or other chemical irritants. It’s a clean, skin-friendly option for crafting items that touch the skin or are kept in close living spaces.
Mild, Pleasant Aroma
Beeswax’s natural, honeyed fragrance enhances its appeal, especially for products like candles and food wraps where synthetic fragrances can be overpowering. The mild scent of honey creates a cozy, welcoming atmosphere and eliminates the need for additional scents.
Pure Beeswax for All Your Projects
Our Pure Beeswax is perfect for a wide array of applications that make the most of its natural properties. Here are some popular and creative uses:
- Candle Making: Known for its bright, clean burn, beeswax is perfect for natural candles that don’t emit harmful smoke or chemicals. As it burns, it emits a subtle honey scent and produces negative ions that can help purify indoor air, making it a preferred choice for wellness-focused homes and natural candle makers.
- Homemade Salves and Skincare: A small amount of beeswax gives structure to skincare products, such as lip balms, hand salves, and creams. It creates a barrier that helps protect skin from the dry winter air. Its natural properties offer moisture without relying on artificial ingredients.
- Reusable Beeswax Food Wraps: Beeswax is a sustainable choice for creating reusable food wraps by applying it to fabric. These wraps can replace single-use plastic wraps, making them an environmentally friendly option for food storage. They can keep food fresh naturally while being washable, reusable, and compostable. We sell beeswax wraps as well as a Beeswax Wrap DIY Kit.
- Wood and Leather Conditioning: When mixed with jojoba or olive oil, beeswax creates an excellent polish for wood cutting boards and furnishers as well as a waterproofing conditioner for leather boots and gear.
- Beekeeping and Hive Management: We use our own wax to coat new plastic foundations in our Langstroth frames. This encourages the bees to accept the foundation and draw out new comb quickly, a critical task in the short window of a strong Minnesota nectar flow.
- Eco-Friendly Crafting: Beeswax is a staple for various crafting projects, from modeling wax to waterproofing cloth items.
Health & Environmental Benefits of Pure Beeswax
Gentle on Sensitive Skin
Pure beeswax is free from synthetic chemicals, making it a safe and natural option for those with allergies or skin sensitivities. The wax is filtered to remove hive debris, but it is not chemically treated. It's as natural as when the bees capped the honeycomb.
Nutrient-Rich for Skincare
Because this is unrefined wax from honey cappings, it contains trace amounts of pollen and propolis, which some believe contribute to its beneficial properties for skin, including natural Vitamin A.
A Sustainable Harvest
Healthy hives produce excess wax. By harvesting and rendering it, we ensure the entire effort of the hive is put to good use. It is a direct link to the cycle of pollination on our farm.
Why Choose Ames Farm for Pure Beeswax?
All of our beeswax is rendered at our apiary located in Delano, Minnesota. As a family operation started in 1994, our focus has been on sustainable beekeeping that adapts to the specific challenges of our region, from managing Varroa mites to ensuring our hives are prepared for Minnesota winters. Protecting our pollinators is not a slogan; it is the fundamental work required to keep our bees healthy enough to forage on local flora like basswood, alfalfa, and wild bergamot. When you choose our beeswax, you're supporting a specific agricultural practice rooted in this part of Minnesota.
Protecting pollinators is central to everything we do, because bees play a vital role in our ecosystem and food supply. When you choose Ames Farm, you’re supporting sustainable agriculture, responsible pollinator protection, and a product that is truly made with care from hive to home.

Absolutely. It's the ideal material for creating reusable food wraps. We also offer pre-made food wraps and DIY food wrap kits if you'd like to try the process.
Why is beeswax a better choice than other waxes?
From our perspective as beekeepers, beeswax is a direct indicator of a healthy landscape. Unlike paraffin, which is a petroleum byproduct, our wax is a renewable material created by our bees. Its higher melting point means it typically provides a brighter, more durable flame in candles compared to soy wax. It also releases a subtle honey aroma that varies based on the season's forage, something not found in industrially produced waxes. It represents a connection to a specific place and season. This makes beeswax a healthier, eco-friendly option that supports sustainable beekeeping while delivering superior performance.
What can pure beeswax be used for?
Pure beeswax can be used for a wide range of practical and creative projects, making it one of the most versatile natural waxes available. It is commonly used for making candles, where its higher melting point allows it to burn longer, brighter, and cleaner than paraffin or soy wax while releasing a naturally subtle honey aroma. Pure beeswax is also popular for salves, balms, and natural skincare products, as well as homemade beeswax food wraps that offer a reusable, eco-friendly alternative to plastic wrap. In addition, beeswax is useful for crafts and household projects, including wood finishes, furniture polish, lubricating drawers or tools, and waterproofing leather or fabric. For beekeeping, it is often used to coat plastic foundation to help bees draw out comb more naturally.
