Q : How long does it take for honey to crystallize and how can it be re-liquified? |
|
A : Our raw honey is typically liquid from harvest time to mid-winter. How soon a honey crystallizes depends on the floral source and storage environment. Honey never spoils and crystallized honey can be re-liquified by heating the container gently (100F) in a pan of water. |

Q : How are your bees? Are your bees affected by the Colony Collapse Disorder? |
|
A : Our bees are fine, we do not feel that CCD or Colony Collapse Disorder is near the widespread problem that the media would imply.
Much of the media attention is not very accurate and is dramatized. Why would we expect a journalist to know anything about honeybees?
CCD is like cancer if you have it, its serious but how many people have cancer?

Q : Is Ames Farm honey organic? |
|
A : No, what exactly is organic honey? Many plants our bees visit are wild like Basswood trees.
As far as we know Basswood trees are not sprayed, likewise for other wild plants.
There is much controversy surrounding the defintion of USDA organic honey and maple syrup.
Its important to know that we do not feed antibiotics preventatively to our honeybees. We also do not use any harsh varrora mite treatments which are so common in American beekeeping.
The quality and purity of our bee products and health of our bees is our first priority. |
